Photographer: E. Taurines and Unknown. People of India and Burma. 1880s/1890s. 6 albumen and 6 collodion paper prints. Various sizes between circa 24 x 19 cm, 19 x 24 cm and 15 x 10 cm. 3 with title in the negative in lower edge, flush-mounted to both sides of board, several annotated in ink and several with printed title on the mounts.
Taurines was a commercial studio in Bombay from 1885 – 1902, most acclaimed for an extensive photographic record of the construction of the Victoria Dock, Bombay. Taurines was in partnership with Charles Nicond for a short time between 1891 – 1892 under the name of Taurines, Nicond & Co. The titles include: „Malwaree Women“ „Bhell Woman“, „Maratta Sadoos or Musicians“, „Water Carriers“ and „Burmese Types“ – Minimal fading in edges, otherwise in very good condition with strong tones and contrasts.
